The installation titled ‘Aiolika’ (a term alluding to Aeolus, the divine keeper of the winds and storms) was designed and fabricated as part of a research project carried out and implemented in the Municipality of Thermi by the Department of Architecture, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. It involved the construction of a free-standing, covered bioclimatic walkway, along with the redesign of a section of Karaoli & Dimitriou street.
The installation consists of four standalone modular metal weathervanes of varying proportions, which are affixed on top of the four metal columns marking the entrance and exit points of the walkway. Each weathervane is made of a central vertical shaft and five elements stemming from it. Two are fixed and three free to move with the wind independently from each other.
